Bright Eyes for Spectacle Wearers

It's taken some tinkering, but I think I've finally worked out a few tricks to get the eyes to pop behind the pesky and problematic prescription eye glasses. I've been wearing prescription eyeglasses for several years and it has taken some practice to find a makeup routine that feels funky and polished when I'm spectacle-clad. These days it seems like everyone is rocking a pair of quirky-cool glasses so I thought it would be fun to share what I've discovered in regard to getting makeup right while wearing glasses. Here it is:

-Shape and define your eyebrows. Your brows are like the frames for your frames (pun!). Keep them tidy and they will set the tone for a polished off look. Here is my before photo ( I'm wearing foundation, cheek color and brows)

- The frame of your glasses can create shadows under your eyes, making you look tired or sick. The trick is to balance the shadow from the frame with a brightening concealer. I used the Erase Paste from Benefit Cosmetics. It has a melon-hued undertone helping to balance the blues and purples that are common under the eyes.

-Highlight the inner corners of your eye with a brightener. I used the Anastasia Highlighting Pencil in a Matte Pink shade. I regularly use this product under my brows for definition, but it can multitask as an eye brightener or a highlight at the peaks of your lips.

- Keep your shadow and liner basic. I used a rose gold shadow with a pearly finish but I wouldn't recommend anything too shimmery. Shimmer behind a prescription lens = crazy eyes. Keep your eyeliner tight to the eyelash line to create the illusion of thicker lashes. Finish with a few coats of long wearing mascara (to prevent smudging if you're lucky enough for your glasses to touch your lenses. jerk.)

- Have some fun with your lip color. Since you're keeping the eyes fairly neutral, don't be afraid to add a bright gloss or lipstick. I used Stila color balm lipstick in Gemma. It's a purple-ish fuchsia color that I am loving for spring.

Set everything with a little translucent powder, and the look will last all day!
